This was a very experienced woman in an HR/Learning and Development role for a big corporation... which makes me wonder why all firms aren't using WoW more openly as a recruitment tool?
Set up characters for applicants to use while there - and measure they're involvement over a couple of weeks?
There must be some way to use it outside the world of geekdom... but you have to accept that many people don't know what it is let alone what you're supposed to do, so you'd have to help them at the start...
